Learning From Your Everyday Life

The past few weeks have been the one that has thought me one great lesson about learning from everyday life circumstances.

My third year session ended August, which implies I was going to go for the second three months \”Student\’s Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).\” Hence, my break was going to be occupied.

My second SIWES was more time consuming than the first, which I did after my sophomore year. Added to it, I joined the choir at my local church, which warrant me to attend rehearsals three times a week. Aside the above two, I have books I planned reading during break, have my blog to attend to and other \”frogs to eat\” as would be written in the book, \”Eat That Frog\” by Brian Tracy. It was quite challenging for me trying to see to my schedule.

Amidst all these \”busy schedule,\” I learnt something significant; \”how to keep my appointments with God.\” Though it was not as easy as it sounds, but the realization that someday I will have greater and more tasking responsibilities to attend to, in still same 24 hours daily, made me hold on to learning how to create time for God regardless of how tight my schedule will be. I wasn\’t consistent and I never kept seeking for the grace and being intentional to keep the appointments either. Hence,  I learnt also, \”sometimes, the consequences of the decisions we make for the sake of the future will require us to step a little further from our comfort circle and it only takes consistency, intention and courage to keep up.\”

Spotting and bracing the lessons in everyday life experience, helps an individual make the right decision and saves him hopping into a ditch that feigns a leveled ground.

Imagine, how many ugly circumstances would be avoided or right decisions would have been made without hassle, if every person always spot and hold on to every lesson in every troubled and calm phases of his life.

One of the secrets to avoid missing opportunities in life is employing the lessons gained from past circumstances to make decisions that matters to one\’s life. A manager who wouldn\’t want to have a bad relationship with his coworkers or employees, will hold on to lessons he learnt or learns from his relationship with the people around him. If he discovers his attitude is maddening his loved ones, then he works on it because his attitude at his work place is largely dependent on his attitude at home.

Erin Gruwell  once said, \”I have learned that, although I am a good teacher, I am a much better student, and I was blessed to learn valuable lessons from my students on a daily basis. They taught me the importance of teaching to a student – and not to a test.\” Indeed, if we learn to appreciate each moment as it is, we will learn lessons worth learning.

What circumstances thought you some vital lessons about life?  Are those lessons helping you shape your decisions and paradigm about life now?  Are you grateful you held on to those lessons?

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross words read, \”Learning lessons is a little like reaching maturity. You\’re not suddenly more happy, wealthy, or powerful, but you understand the world around you better, and you\’re at peace with yourself. Learning life\’s lessons is not about making your life perfect, but about seeing life as it was meant to be.\”

Presently, life is teaching me, \”the benefits of patience and the beauty of God\’s immeasurable grace.\”

What lessons is the circumstance you are surrounded by at the moment teaching you? How can you apply it to make your life a better one?

  1. I will start taken notice of the lessons that whatever challenges I may be facing at every moment of my life comes With. And as for the question, am still pondering on the lessons leaned from the past experiences or circumstances.
